GMB 2022 FINALISTS INTERACTS WITH THE DIRECTOR GENERAL AND STAFF OF THE GHANA AIDS COMMISSION

The Ghana AIDS Commission on Friday 23rd September, 2022 received a delegation from Media General, Ghana Most Beautiful (GMB) 2022 seven finalists at its Secretariat at Ridge-Accra. The team called on the Director General, Dr. Kyeremeh Atuahene and assured the Commission of their full support and readiness to undertake projects to heighten education on HIV prevention in their communities to ensure reduction in new HIV infections across the country.

Ms. Nancy Vukania, the team lead, stressed on the urgent need to deepen knowledge on prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV among young women of reproductive age, including pregnant women to ensure a generation free of HIV. She said their visit was a collaborative effort to inform GAC of the willingness of the GMB 2022 finalists to take on advocacy roles in support of the national HIV and AIDS response. She indicated that the contestants were prepared to embark on various projects at the end of the competition and are willing to collaborate with GAC to intensify prevention education in the communities and the media at large.

Briefing the delegation, Dr. Atuahene expressed his profound gratitude for the visit and said new HIV infections have been recorded in all segments of the Ghanaian population especially among the youth. He indicated the urgent need to deepen prevention education among adolescents especially girls to curb new infections among them. He encouraged the contestants to inculcate HIV messages on their stage presentations to the GMB 2022 audience and further admonished them to reduce risky behaviors and be role models to their peers and followers. He thanked the Media General team for the continued partnership and called for strengthening of such collaboration in the ensuring years.

He pledged the Commissions support to all   the GMB 2022 finalists as they embark on any HIV related projects and urged them to share any innovative ideas they might have to enhance public   education in their various communities. Finally, the DG, GAC wished them well in all their endeavors
